BCS Mediation North America has expanded its mediation group to the international environment, and now BCS Mediation International actively mediates international disputes in the following substantive areas that involve climate change, and the effects to water, land, animals, business, architecture, and design.

Mediation Process
BCS Mediation has been in existence since the early 1990s. Since then, we have grown, improved, and developed our processes and techniques into one of USA’s most thoughtful, efficient, and productive national and international mediation practices. The core of our practice involves climate change; global warming; land and air pollution; design and architecture; animal species and ecosystem health; and business contracts relating to these domains.
We are a full-service mediation firm, and do our work in-house, which can include court filings, mathematical and financial calculations, practical conflict resolution design (often mediation and negotiation), and extensive research as necessary. Our focus is on out-of-court settlements and win-win, creative solutions, even though, in some cases, we must also file settlement agreements and auxiliary documents. We have offices in Berkeley, Silicon Valley, and San Diego, and conference space in North America, UK, and Europe. We regularly handle out-of-California, national or international work.
We have a team of highly experienced legal, financial, mediation, negotiation experts. This combination of skill sets, and knowledge allows us to mobilize our team for all our cases. This provides us a system of check and balances that will ensure accuracy, thorough treatment of your case, and careful follow-up for new issues that may develop. We have a highly accurate system of client billing, which will ensure that you are never over-charged, and we are always happy to explain our billing procedures in advance, and to adjust as needed. In our professional relationship with you, we model the kind of dynamics and resolution techniques that we apply in your case or dispute.
Please give us a call so that we can discuss your situation. As humans move forward into conflict issues that involve the climate change, sustainability, and environmental issues that affect our well-being, it will take a dedicated, experienced firm like ours to solve them.
Climate Change
By burning fossil fuels, we are increasing the level of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. In fact, the current levels of CO2 in the atmosphere are the highest in human history. This additional atmospheric CO2 has resulted in an increase in the average temperature at Earth’s surface due to a natural phenomenon called the greenhouse effect.
Greenhouse gases like methane, carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated cases trap heat from the sun. Under normal conditions, this keeps the average temperature of Earth’s surface at a level that is compatible with life. However, these elevated atmospheric CO2 levels have insulated our planet even more, acting like a thick, wool coat trapping more heat here on Earth. As a result, stronger storms, heavier rains, and longer droughts are all becoming more common as global average temperatures rise.
Global temperatures have above average and steadily rising since the 1970s. We are seeing the severe effects from increasing global average temperatures. Weather events are becoming more frequent and severe, and sea levels are rising and threatening coastal cities around the globe.
Human Causes of Climate Change
- Power plants: Burn large amounts of fossil fuels pollutes soil, water, and increases warming.
- Drilling: Release huge amounts of hydrocarbon, methane, and other gases into the atmosphere
- Transport and vehicles: Burn fossil fuels releases significant amounts of carbon.
- Consumerism and waste: Increase our use of goods create more waste, more pollution, and more warming especially as landfills create significant amounts of atmospheric gas.
- Farming: Increase our use of green spaces and arable land reduces carbon sequestration and releases methane and other warming gases.
- Overfishing: Eat a fish diet reduces species diversity and the health of the major fishing areas in the world.
- Industrialization: Chemicals and materials that we release pollute the soil and the atmosphere.
- Deforestation: Decreases carbon sequestration and releases huge amounts of warming gas into the atmosphere.
- Oil and Gas Culture: This has caused major deleterious health and ecosystem effects, which has caused consternation amongst corporations, individual humans, communities that we need to pursue alternative forms of energy.
Some of the Major Dimensions Affected by Climate Change
- Ecosystems
- Banking and Finance
- Energy and Transport
- Infrastructure
- Urban Planning
- Nature and Conservation
- Water Purity and Availability
Climate Change Mediation
The mediators at BCS Mediation International have experience solving complex conflicts in many different venues and substantive areas.
We are trained in game theory analysis, psychoanalysis, and several problem-solving techniques that can keep you out of court. With a sensitivity toward science and the law, we have fruitful results in helping our clients create new understandings of their dispute that provide a road map to resolution. The implications of climate change reverberate into every area of human life with a constantly evolving problematic concerning basic resources and survival.
Livelihoods are at stake. Health is at stake. The biosphere is at stake. This can cause stakeholders, organizations, governments, and businesses anxiety and fear, which brings the aggression endemic to a win-lose approach to solving the problem. In our experience, we have learned that this creates even more intractability with no real sustainable solution in sight.
